Medical face shield manufacturers like The Kare Lab use a material called PET (polyethylene terephthalate). These are used to make replaceable clear shields used by healthcare employees, patients, and industry workers, and sometimes, individuals, especially during the COVID -19 pandemic. The plastics used are considered as PPE (personal protective equipment) and, they are usually bendable, impact-resistant, anti-fog, easy to clean and allow for high clarity while also protecting against hazardous particles and respiratory droplets.

Are face shields effective as medical face masks?

Face shields are not as effective as face masks in preventing the spread of pathogens such as the coronavirus or a flu. Most plastic face shield supplies are best used in combination with a 3-ply face mask or a FFP2 mask, for instance, as adequate protection against COVID-19 and other respiratory tract diseases. However, a face shield can be used industrially and in the home for protecting wearers from chemical splashes and other unwanted splatters.
